I arrived in SL late January 2008. After a short period I rented a series of properties and then bought a 4096 plot on a private island sim. I now want to purchase a 512sq m plot on the mainland because:
a) I gather that I do not have to pay tier on this plot
b) it will be a good idea to use this facility and my ‘allowance’
c) it might (I repeat) might be an investment
d) I need a location to open a small shop.
In RL the mantra ‘Location, location, location’ is often aired as a major deciding factor in purchasing any property. But, in SL how do you decide which of the proliferation of plots available would be the best buy?
Should the perfect plot be flat? Not surrounded by other big buildings or plots? Near the ocean? Near other businesses or malls? Is the traffic quota an important factor? What areas have a greater appeal and why? Do some areas have greater potential re-sale opportunities? In fact what is it that I should be looking at?
At the end of the day it appears to me to be simply pot luck. Or is it simply the feeling I get looking around – ‘do I really like the ambience of this particular plot’? But is it that simple?
